Typical ranges are about $20,000–$30,000 for a basic system, $35,000–$45,000 with a pump, and $55,000–$65,000 for a sand mound, plus roughly $3,200–$5,200 for design and filing. Your actual price depends on the site.
Under BC's Sewerage System Regulation, only an Authorized Person — a Registered Onsite Wastewater Practitioner (ROWP) or a Professional (such as a P.Eng.) — may design and install a system, or supervise its installation.
The Authorized Person files the system design with the health authority (Fraser Health in this region) before construction starts, and submits a letter of certification and records after installation. Check with your municipality for building permit requirements too.
Site assessment and design can take a few weeks; the install itself is often a few days to a couple of weeks, depending on weather, soil and system type.
A sand mound is a raised dispersal area used where native soils are too shallow, wet or slow to treat effluent. Your designer decides based on the soil assessment.
